The Great Way is Not Difficult by Mu Soeng

The poem xinxinming (Hsin Hsin Ming), with its first line, The Great Way is not difficult for those who have no preferences, is one of the most beloved poems of Zen tradition as well as being its core teaching. It is also the first full-length authentic text of Chinese Zen. This workshop will explore the historical and doctrinal backgrounds of this poem, situating it within the Taoist influences that shaped the early layers of Chinese Zen. Through classroom discussions and meditation periods, we gain a more nuanced understanding of this seminal text and how its sentiments speak to us even today in our daily lives.
