Yoga Festival Toronto is a non-profit organization formed to institute a yearly festival of the Yoga Tradition that will unite, inspire and support local practitioners, teachers, and studios with a broad range of presentation topics, practical classes, and round-table discussion and debate. Our goal is to help develop a mature, community-based, and innovative Yoga culture in Toronto and beyond.

Background

Lineage

YFT was founded and is currently directed by a broad coalition of the Toronto Yoga community folk working on a volunteer basis to bring a stellar roster of teachers and presenters together to teach and debate the various topics of what’s becoming a global, non-denominational spiritual and holistic health movement.

Activities

Presenters will be speaking and instructing in Ayurvedic medicine, Yoga philosophy in contemporary perspective, “enlightened” eating, sexual wholeness from a Yogic perspective, Vedic Astrology, the Yoga of social activism, Yoga and psychotherapy, Yoga’s relationship to Buddhism, meditation as a healing therapy, and more.

Biography

Co-Directors: Matthew Remski, and Dennison Smith owners of Renaissance Yoga and Ayurveda, (www.renaissanceyoga.ca) and Scott Petrie founder of The Yoga Darshana Society of Toronto (www.tydst.com).

Comments

Founded by a broad coalition of Yoga community folk, YFT was initially inspired to action by the growing commercialism of Yoga culture. YFT believes that the technologies of Yoga are liberating to human consciousness and healing to the planet - they should therefore be affordable, accessible, topical, developed through dialogue, and offered apart from the standard tensions of consumer-profit economy. YFT seeks to live and impart the values of sustainable living, community support, and the contemplative life.
